With iPod touches, you connect to WiFi, which is local, like on a computer.
It is free, if you have the code to the network (if it is locked)
If It's not locked, it is the owner of the Wifi Router's folly!
In an airport, for example, there might be a connection, but to connect, you have to pay, via a website that comes up asking for a credit card.
If there is no local connection around, there is no internet.
The local connections have a small area in which they broadcast, like the ares around a house, unlike an iPhone connection, which is almost everywhere, and costs heaps too.
