Yes, it is normal to have diarrhea during your period because I get it sometimes also.

I agree with whoever said that, but let me explain why just so that you might feel better. I am 27, so I've had periods for a long time, but the diarrhea didn't start until semi-recently. It seemed to me like no change in diet and amount of Pepto-Bismol changed the symptoms, and I figured it would just be something I had to deal with, but, after some research, this is what I can deduce:

There are chemicals called prostaglandins that your body releases that signals your body to get rid of the unneeded blood. [Women who have stalled periods or are going through menopause have the lack of that chemical to blame.] Anyhow, what they do is cause the uterus to contract, which can also trigger contractions in your bowels, causing diarrhea. It usually occurs only for the first few days of your flow, while the chemical is in heavy use. ibuprofen reduces the amount of the chemical - I would recommend taking 3 instead of the usual 2. I've also heard that eating bland foods helps, though that didn't help in my case. 3 IBs every 4 hours or so has helped me immensely, and also helps deal with the cramps.

I get diarrhoea during my period. Approximately on the second day of bleeding. It is a relativly new thing for me. Im 25. I had a baby 2 years ago and had a coil fitted, since then I have noticed my periods are heavier, and I have started to have diarrhoea.

I take paracetamol to help with cramps, sometimes with ibuprofen 400mg. Taking more than the recommended dose of ibuprofen can worsen stomach cramps and can also lead to gastric bleeding. The recommended does of ibuprofen is 400mg 6 hourly.

Diarrhea can occur because of hormonal imbalance cause hormone-like chemicals that cause uterine contractions to also effect the bowels. You can reduce this by regulating your hormones and improving your diet to increase fiber leading up to your period. Look into IBS-D specific diets as those with IBS can be triggered by hormonal changes so they know how best to avoid this.

Yes, of course you can have diarrhea during your period - you can have diarrhea any time!

Sometimes women can be more prone to diarrhea during menstruation as the hormone-type chemicals that cause the uterus to contract in order to push out menstrual flow can also have an effect on the bowels too. If you do have this problem it helps to balance hormones and improve your diet to include more high-fiber foods leading up to your period. Also look into IBS specific diets as IBS can be triggered by hormones so diets for IBS-D take that into consideration.
