Yes, you can carry large luggage on the Underground. However, there are a number of rules that apply:

  • No item may be larger than 2 meters.
  • You must be able to carry the item yourself, including up and down fixed stairways.
  • Items must not be hazardous and/or flammable,
  • May not be likely to cause injury to anyone,
  • May not be likely to cause damage to train, buses or stations.

Items that are allowed through by staff are not charged extra for, but staff can refuse you permission to bring any item onto the service, beyond the ones listed here. In order to minimize chances of you being refused permission, check with TfL before travelling.
