It is never good to eat a lot of salt at any time, but particularly during pregnancy. During pregnancy, anything you eat will also affect your baby. Whilst an adult can remove salt from their bodies through the kidneys and then in the urine, a fetus does not have the ability to process large amounts of salt and kidney, brain and liver damage can be caused. Too much salt can also lead to high blood pressure, which is already a problem during pregnancy. Also during pregnancy, water retention is quite common and your chances of having water retention are higher if you eat a lot of salt.
