Can you hunt deer in Texas with a 223 rifle?

Yes, it is legal. Texas does not permit the use of RIMFIRE guns for deer hunting, but any centerfire is legal. Wh ile it is legal, I personally do not recommend it. Yes, the .223 can kill a deer. It will also wound a lot of deer. It is simply too small to insure a clean kill.

Is the 223 good for a youth deer rifle?

A 223 would be fine for a deer rifle but you need to make sure the (youth) person can hit the kill zone. I would suggest the 243.

In Alabama is it legal to kill a deer with a .223 caliber round?

In short, yes - as long as it is a centerfire cartridge. Rimfire cartridges in .22 caliber are not legal for deer (.22LR or .22 Magnum). In fact ANY rimfire cartridge would be illegal for deer. Also, the projectile used can NOT be full metal jacket (aka ball ammo). Soft (lead) nose would be preferred over hollow points although either of these would be legal. There are 55, 62, 65, 69 and 70 grain soft-nosed .223 projectiles that I know of - the heavier the better as long as your rifle's twist rate can stabilize the heavier bullets. Every deer I have killed in Arkansas for the past 15 years has been with a Olympic Arms 16" barrel AR-15 shooting 62 grain soft points (I use .223 just to prove a point - I have dozens of magnum caliber bolt guns). No deer has moved more than 20 feet - and most less than 5 - all shots being less than 150 yards and neck or heart/lung.

What is the smallest caliber rifle legal for deer hunting in South Dakota?

South Dakota does not use caliber, but requires a minimum energy. Copied from the home page of the SD Game regulations:Deer and Antelope - Shoulder-held firearms using ammunition factory-rated to produce at least 1,000 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle and handguns using ammunition that is factory rated to produce at least 500 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle, may be used to hunt deer and antelope. Only soft-point or expanding bullets are permitted.A .223 or larger cartridge will meet that standard. .22 Rimfire will not.

What is a good deer rifle for beginn ers?

.223 (maybe) definitely a .243. The BEST deer rifle is a 25-06 (Long story short .223 = good not much effect, .243 = GREAT for beginner, later on you will want a 25-06. 2-06 = BEST!)
