I would not recommend jump starting a motorcycle using a car, unless it's an extreme emergency. Then you do not want the car running, or you could fry your charging system.

*Edit* Actually jump starting a motorcycle from a car battery is absolutely fine - whether the car is running or not. The motorcycle battery will only draw the power it needs from the car battery and won't overload it's own circuits.

I have jumped a motorcyle from car batteries many times, and when we service motorcycles at the roadside that have dead batteries we hook them up to the generator in the van that we also use to start 18 wheelers that are having battery trouble, so its perfectly fine

How do you charge a motorcycle battery with a car battery?

You must get a couple of so-called jumper cables. The cables have strong clamps on them and are designed to be clamped to the battery terminals. Attach the black cable to the negative terminals of the motorcycle and car battery first. Then attach the red or positive cable to the positive terminals of the motorcycle and the car battery. In case your motorcycle battery is empty, you can now start the bike from the car battery. Disconnect the cables in reverse order, beginning with the red cable. The motorcycle battery will not be charged much by the car battery but the bike can be jump started by using this method.

How do you disable the alarm in a 1999 montero sport?

Another issue is to disable the alarm when attempting to jumpstart a dead battery. The alarm will come to life and sound when jumper cables are connected to the battery being used to jump the vehicle. The solution is to connect the jumper cables, and while the alarm is sounding, insert the key in the door and manually unlock the vehicle. The alarm will go off, and you can continue to jumpstart the battery. Don't use your key or remote pad, press the lock button from the inside of the car before closing the door.

How do you jump start a dead battery on a 2008 beetle?

You have to have two battery jumper cables. One cable connects to the Bettle battery plus connector and the plus side of the battery in a (engine running) jumpstart car. The other cable connects to the jumpstart car negative battery connector and the bettle minus battery connector. It is important to let the donor car charge the Bettle battery for ten to fiftenn minutes because most jumper cables are poor quality and size to immediately supply all the current to the Bettle starter by themselves. Give the Bettle battery a while to charge and let it help the cranking process.
