∙ 12y agoIt is legal to carry a blade shorter than 3 inches in any state unless there is a specific law relating to an area that says you aren't (such as in an airport). In California you may carry any fixed blade knife as long as it isn't concealed, and any folding knife that is not a switchblade, gravity knife, butterfly knife, or any other form of assisted opening or locking folding knife may be carried and concealed.
The state of California requires the size to be 2 1/5 inches or less not 3. 3 inches is per the United States Code, not the California code. You need to check the laws pertaining to the municipality, county, or city you live and carry in to be legal as there can be modifications to the law.
