The Otto cycle, know as the four stroke cycle is as follows.

This is a simplified explanation of a petrol engine, the basic details are correct. Most are also relevant to a CI engine. It is not meant to be a definitive answer and is only a description for the basic operation.
Induction:
The inlet valve opens and the piston moves down the cylinder causing a partial vacuum and drawing an air/fuel mixture into the cylinder through the inlet manifold.
Compression:
The inlet valve closes and the piston moves up the cylinder compressing the air/fuel mixture. The compression ratios vary.
Power:
Near the top of the compression stroke a spark is induced and the air/fuel mixture is ignited. This causes the gasses to expand rapidly and forces the piston down the cylinder.
Exhaust:
The exhaust valve opens and the piston moves up the cylinder expelling the burnt gasses out through the exhaust manifold. The exhaust valve closes and the cycle starts again.

There is no such thing as a heat power cycle in a steam engine.The power stroke, or strokes, result from pressurised steam being let into the cylinder and moving the piston.

The Carnot cycle gives the theoretical maximum efficiency of an engine operating between two heat reservoirs. The Carnot cycle is an idealized engine cycle that is thermodynamically reversible. Real systems such as power plants are not reversible, and the entropy of a real material changes with temperature (which is not accounted for by the Carnot cycle). A steam power plant operates closer to a cycle known as the Rankine cycle.

A 4 stroke engine takes 4 strokes to complete a cycle. 1, intake. 2, compression. 3, ignition/power. 4, exhaust.
A four stroke engine has 4 strokes per cycle, whereas the two stroke engine has only 2 strokes per cycle. Since the 2 stroke engine has twice as many power strokes as a 4 stroke engine at a given rpm, the 2 stroke is capable of making nearly twice the power of a 4 stroke for a given displacement.

Cycle means the number of piston strokes for a complete cycle. 2 stroke= 2 cycle.

In a two-stroke engine, two strokes is one cycle. In a four stroke engine, four strokes is one complete cycle. A stroke is a part of a cycle. Remember that the "up" motion and the "down" motion each count as one stroke.

There is no oil resivoir holding oil that weighs around 1.7 pounds per quart. A 2 cycle engine also does not have valves which a 4 cycle does. All this makes the 2 cycle engine simpliar and lighter.
