∙ 15y agoDue to new Home Land Security laws, largely because of 9/11, the collection of SSN's is required for all licensing beit for driving, for hunting/fishing, pilot, and professional licensure like Cosmetology, barbers, doctors, lawyers, just about everything that has to do with a license or permits. The feds threatened to withhold funding for highways and other state agencies dependant on said funding if the state did not supply on demand, the SSN from a person applying for the licenses.
