Answer

For safety reasons, it would be better to have the mower repaired with the proper parts. Riding mowers at best can be dangerous, so make sure yours is running as it should.

Snapper riding mower pull cord spins freely won't start?

The dog house on your recoil is broken or stuck. It's the thing that pops out and engages the shaft when you pull on it, it goes back in when you release the rope.

How do you know if your push mower engine is locked up?

Remove the spark plug and try to pull start it. With the spark plug out try to manually rotate the blade. If the blade rotates, the mower is not locked up. It is possible there is something wrong with the recoil starter. Sometimes the float in the carburetor gets stuck open and gas will fill the cylinder, this will not allow you to pull the starting rope. With the spark plug removed pull the starting rope hard this will push out any excess fuel in the cylinder. Put the spark plug back in and try to start it.

Why does your lawnmower cut the grass when pulling backwards but does not cut when pushing forward?

The starter rope is the one used to start many of the mechanical start walk behind Murray mowers. The procedure is to pull the starter rope with sufficient force which will start the mower engine. Given the rough usage of this rope, eventually, the rope will wear away and break. A shorter rope will not impart the necessary torque to kick start the engine. The only solution is to replace the starter rope. While this may seem quite complicated, it is one of the simplest things to do. With a proper wrench and starter rope, you can do it at home.

I pulled the cord on my snapper riding lawnmower and the cord broke. How do I replace it?

You have to buy a new rope, remove the cover from the engine that contains the manual rope starter. There is a spring inside that can fly out and injure you if you do not know what you are doing. My suggestion is that you take the mower or the cover to a lawn mower shop and let them replace the rope if you are not comfortable tackling this yourself. It can be tricky to install the new rope and wind the spring just right.

Pull cord on push mower won't pull after running over stump. What is the cause?

You either bent the blade to the point where it's hitting something, or you broke the motor. Take the blade off and try pulling the starter rope. If it won't pull, the engine (which usually means the whole mower, as expensive as new engines are) is hosed.

Can riding cloves give you better grip on the reins?

I think you mean gloves? And yes, they do. Riding gloves are specifically made to help you keep your grip on the reins. Not to mention if the horse decides to pull them out of your hands it saves you from rope/rein burn. :)

How do rope and pulley change the force of an item?

A rope and pulley lessen the force needed to pull an item, but it increases the distance that you have to pull it. It also changes the direction that it moves: you pull the rope down, the item goes up.
