yes, but you'll need to have the main journals turned down first.

Can you put a big block crank in small block 400?

No

If you put a 327 long journal crank in a 305 block would it just be a 327?

The 305 shares stroke dimensions with the 350, so if you put a 327 crank in a 305, you'd have a de-stroked 305 with almost no compression. Displacement would be around 287 cid.

Can you put a 350 or 400 crank in a 305 if so what ci would the motor be?

350 and 305 cranks have the same stroke (3.48") so putting a 350 crank into a 305 won't change the ci at all. A 400 crank has a 3.75" stroke, so using that crank in a 305 would make a 329 ci engine. However, in either case you'd have to have the crank re-balanced to work with the lighter 305 pistons. In the case of the 400, the crank journals are larger (2.65") so they'd have to be machined down to 2.45" to fit in a 305 (or 350). A machine shop can do that work (turning down the journals and balancing the crank) but you can also buy reasonably priced aftermarket 3.75" stroke cranks from companies like Scat and Eagle that are made to fit the 305 (actually the 350, but there's no difference in terms of aftermarket cranks) right out of the box. But even in those cases you'd still need to have the crank balanced for your pistons and rotating assembly. I have a 336 ci engine that started life as a 305, but now has a 3.75" stroke crank (same as a 400) and 3.776" pistons. It's not a cheap way to get cubic inches, but if you already have a 305 block and are insistent on making the most of it for whatever reason, it can be made into a nice engine. I did A LOT of work on my heads (aluminum Trick Flows) to maximize them to work with the 3.776" bore. The 305 has a small bore - it can work for performance, but you have to know your stuff and do your research.

What does it take to put a 400 crank in a 350?

The small block 350 uses a smaller main bearing diameter than the Small block 400. To run a 400 crank in a 350 the crank must be "turned" down at a machine shop to fit the 350 bearing diameters. You also will need to use special pistons with the correct compression height for the 350 IF you are using the 5.7 inch 350 connecting rods. If you use the 5.565 inch 400 connecting rods , then you can use regular 350 pistons. The longer stroke 400 crank also requires that you provide additional clearance inside the block, by grinding notches to eliminate the crank hitting the block and other parts. Finally, the entire engine must be re-balanced to make sure that the engine does not vibrate. The 400 is externally balanced and the 350 is internally balenced so you need to use 400 flywheel and 400 harmonic balancer.

Yes you can.

It won't change anything.

How do you put in crank cencer in and where is it at?

most of them r in the block there the bottom

Can you put a turbo 400 transmission on your Chevy 305?

You can if it has the Chevy bolt pattern.

Will 350 CK 1500 headers fit 305 CK 1500?

Yes the head design and exhaust manifold bolt patterns are the same on most gm small block applications. There is a misconception on block sizes, reality is the following engines are small blocks and most parts are interchangable. 289 305 307 350 383 400. You can really tell these engines apart without checking casting numbers. dont just check the head casting either like i said parts can be swapped. Check the rear of the block by the oil sending unit (by distributor) 305's are 350's with smaller cylinder bores, less cam, low flow heads etc. emission motors, but they can easily be built to three hundred horses. If you can put a 305 in a camaro you can put a 383 or 400 in it without a problem the blocks are the same sizes but the strokes and bore are different. It makes you sound like an idiot when you ask if a three eighty three will fit in the place of your 305. This is where the stroker comes in a stroker is a three fifty with a four hundred crank. (You cant stroke a 305 with a 350 crank because the strokes are the same) It wont fit naturally, so the block must be worked. The point im getting at is that most small block parts interchange especally exhaust manifolds.

How do you de-stroke a 400 small block Chevy?

In the racing world, both drag and circle track, as well as 4X4's, and boats, it is common practice to put a 350 crank, 6 inch connecting rod, and a special piston, into a 400 block, making a 383. The 400 crankshaft has too long of a stroke, for high performance.

Do you need to spilt the block on a 350 Banshee to put a crank seal in it?

you put in a 400 crank and shorter pistons
