Yes, of course you can. In fact if you do you will not need a bite alarm at all. Put the reel on ratchet (and off lock) and the line will pull off the spool perfectly making all the noise you will need. If you are after extreme distance then a well set up multiplier teamed with a stiff rod and a practised pendulum cast will send a bait up and in capable hands over, 200 yds. In the margins, also, no problem, just swing the bait out under thumb control. Surprised that few carp anglers have really explored the potential of the multiplier.

Most of the time, yes, though very occasionally the reel seat on a multiplier rod will prevent fitting a fixed spool reel.

The main difference (in the reel seat) is that on a multiplier rod (usually referred to as a 'casting' rod), there is typically a 'trigger' grip, to aid holding the rod / reel whilst casting. Multipliers are typically mounted on top of the rod, i.e. with the rod rings pointing upwards, whereas if you mounted a fixed spool reel, you would use the rod 'normally' with the rings pointing down.

Similarly, in most cases you can mount a multiplier reel onto a standard reel seat, but forgo the 'trigger' feature, which is often no more than personal preference anyway!

What is the difference between spinning rods and casting rods?

a spinning rod uses a spinning reel - the type that you manually open the bail before casting and normally the reel is used hanging below the rod and they usually have a larger handle than casting reels which you press a button or bar on the reel before casting. I find that spinnig reels are much easier to use.

Which fishing rods are for starters?

The easiest for starters would be a spinning reel and rod. Spinning reels take little time to get used to. But also make sure you get a reel and rod that can match what you are fishing for. Example- Lightweight spinner if you are fishing for panfish, or any other small fish. Example- Bigger, heavier spinner and rod if you are fishing for larger fish such as northern pike, bass, etc.

What is the best rod for pike fishing?

If you are using live or deadbaits and you want to catch an average sized pike go for a rod with test curve of around 2.5 - 3lb (it will probably say this information on the rod). I usually use a carp rod for this job as it is the same a pike rod only it says "carp rod" on it instead. Also, they are easier to hold of for me. If your are lure fishing with small-medium lures then yet yourself a specified spinning rod with a spinning reel, and for jerk baits use a jerkiest or heavy lure rod and use with a 4000 sized fixed-spool reel or a multiplier.

What is a bait-casting reel in simple terms?

A bait caster is a type of fishing reel. The other two common types of fishing reels are the spinning reel and spincast reels. The baitcaster reel has the reel and the guides of the on the top of the fishing rod (as does a spincaster rod and reel). The baitcaster reel is the most difficult to learn how to use but generally casts farther and has a better drag system for handling larger and more powerful fish.

Can you put normal fishing line in a fly reel and use it for normal fishing?

It's possible but the reel and rod are not made to handle the stresses that monofilament fishing line will put on the gear. The drags on a fly fishing reel are not as robust as a conventional reel.

How is a fishing rod a fixed pulley?

Not the rod, but the reel. The reel is fixed at one location on the rod. It winds the fishing line around the spindle of the reel as you "reel it in".

How do you take reel off fishing rod?

Rod and reel combinations have several ways that they are fastened to each other. Salt- and fresh-water reels typically fit in a reel seat by having the lower tab put into a slot. The reel nut is then lowered by screwing in in the right direction to secure it over the upper tab of the reel seat. Cork rods have cork-based tape wrapped around the bottom of the rod. Reels are fastened with reel clamps. A half-circle fits behind the rod, the reel sits on top. Long screws are run through the clam into the reel seat. Alternately, hose clamps are used to secure the reel foot to the reel. In some inexpensive fresh-water rods, a nut and bolt fit through a flat plate. The reed is put into a slot in the reel, tipped into placed, the flat plate is put over the upper reel tab, and the screw is turned to secure the reel in place. Fly reels are mounted on rods using broad rings that pressure-fit in place over the upper or lower reel foot, depending on how the reel is mounted on the rod.
