Yes it the harddrive is updated with the new model. The harddrive needs to be set up for the system that it is in. It would not be a fat PS3 harddrive in a PS3 slim and still allow the PS3 slim to work. You could not even put it in a different model Fat PS3 without uploading the new information for that model PS3. They are all just standard laptop harddrives (2.5" internal Serial ATA HDD) like all PS3 use and then loaded with the unique model information that only that model can use. You certainly could not use a early PS2 capable harddrive to give your slim a capability to play PS2 games. see related link
nope
They can and then sometimes they do not. If you are talking about when Sony fixes it they can sub your PS3 for one that has already been repaired and so you could send in a fat and get a slim
In the box itself, the ps3 slim is smaller and has a white box. The ps3 'fat' normally has a black box and is a lot more heavy, as well as bigger. Out of the box, the ps3 slim has hard buttons that actually move when you press them. The 'fat' ps3 is just a touch sensor for the eject and power buttons. The ps3 slim has a dull look, and the ps3 'fat' has a glossy look.
The PS3 fat makes more noise when it is being used than the PS3 slim
yes
No.
The Fat PS3 uses more power than the Slim PS3 and will run much hotter
The factory issued HDD for the Fat or the early PS3 models had a smaller hard drive (20GB, 40GB, 60GB, & 80GB models were released) than any of the PS3 slim(120GB or 250GB later models had 160GB or 320GB, then the 250GB or 500GB was used for the super slim ). There was a fat special edition with a 160GB harddrive that is smaller than all but the first 120 GB slim models, but even those first slim models could be purchased with 250 GB. It really does not matter because it costs about $150 for best buy to make any PS3 into one with a 1 TB hard drive. For $50 they will also install your harddrive and many different standard laptop HDD can be purchased below $100 from AMAZON for Best Buy to install if you do not have the ability to install it yourself. For a few more dollars they will also transfer all your files from your old PS3 Hard Drive unto the new one. All PS3 models take standard laptop harddrives and were designed to allow you to upgrade the harddrive size
Yes they can and they can also play on the new slim released in May 2010. They really are only PS3 games and not games for the slim or fat PS3
Slim, doesn't overheat, quite, no smudging, lighter to move, though fat can play PS3 , PS2 games and PS2 slim can only play ps1 and ps3.
PS3 Slim will soon be out of stock in retail stores so if you are going to get one now is the time. Just like when the Fat PS3 was replaced by the PS3 Slim. There where still models of Fat PS3 available at the stores until they sold out. Then they were sold new as collectibles. You can still purchase any PS3 in the collectible market still new in box
Performance wise, they are pretty much the same. The PS3 slim attracts people because its 35% lighter & smaller then the fat PS3 and uses 50% less energy. Thin and smaller gadgets are in. It'll take up less space and has a bigger hard drive, as well as Bravia Sync feature. Less dust attraction, scratch marks, and fingerprints. Some people also like the new design over the PS3 fat. I have a fat PS3 40gb and I probably will buy a slim during Christmas when there are bundles. I think all the things I listed warrants a purchase. Maybe not an immediate purchase, but an upgrade sooner then later.
