That would not be a good idea. The electric grill is designed to work without creating excessive smoke and without requiring combustion. You can get unacceptable levels of carbon monoxide. And you are very likely to damage the electric grill, as it is not designed to handle that sort of heat and contact.
I reccomend you get a coal burning grill. With the gas grill, sure the flavor is great. But with the coal grill, you can capture the true flavor of backyard bbq. It's a bit of a pain to handle, but the foods worth it.
