1 hour! Open the bag and let some air in if the fish is in there longer than that, and consider putting the fish in a clean bowl. Don't clean the bowl with soap use a vinegar water mix so you don't hurt the fish... soap is toxic to fish!
an addition: if you are looking for a way to travel with goldfish, your best bet is to purchase a small travel tank (they are usually about 1 gallon and cost around 5 dollars), which has vents along the top. if you are careful, you don't have to worry about spilling. i do this with my fish, and they are fine for my 10-12 hour drives between Maine and New York.

∙ 13y agoDo you mean one of the plastic Rubbermaid tubs with the lids on top? If so you most certainly can. Most people I know use them for "sick" tanks, or to separate them from other fish while they are pregnant, as the tubs are not the most attractive looking things.
Make sure you have plenty of ventilation (As in, don't put the lid on, at least not without lots of air holes) and use a filter and you should be okay!
