yes you can place new shingles over old shingles as long as the first layer of shingles are not curled....you will need 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 roofing nails..and 2 courses is the limit...follow same procedure as first roof installation
Yes, particularly if the exposure is the same. Also check the local building codes and find out how many layers you are permitted to have before you must tear off all of the old shingles. Normally you are allowed up to two layers, including the new roof.
With composition shingles, no felt is necessary between shingle layers. When the exposure of the shingles is the same as the old exposure, the bottom edge of the old shingles is used as a guide for the upper edge of the new shingles in placement. This ability to place the shingles would be lost if covered with felt.
If the roof is less than 24 years old,you can re -shingle over the old shingles. But if the roof is over 35 years old it is best to remove the exiting shingles ans replace with new
If there is only one set of shingles on the roof, cover over it. If two, remove the old and then apply the new.
sure, as long as the old roof is still flat and not wavy or cupped and doesn't already have 4 or 5 layers of shingles on it. I've seen a lot of roofs with a couple of layers of shingles on them having no problems. Your local roofing contractor will say "hell no" because he'll want to do a tear-off and reroof and make a bit more money. If you can afford it, that is probably the best way to go, but if you want to save some bucks roof right over the old. It's common practice and should serve you well
You are better off removing the old. You can inspect the decking and the shingles will lay flater.
Heat exchange causes expansion and contraction.
Shingles are caused by the Chicken Pox virus. If you had chicken pox, you carry the virus. The virus often reactivates in people over age 50 years old.
Complete instructions should be included on the shingle package, but essentially what you will be doing is placing the top of the new shingle against the bottom edge of the old shingle, assuming the exposure of the shingles is the same.
The felt is not to keep the sheeting dry...it will be fine Your shingles keep the roof dry...the felt is for insulating and non sweating characteristics which makes your shingles last longer.

If the shingles are buckled they need to be removed before applying new ones. If they are in fair shape, then keep the old shingles on if there is only one layer.
