You can, but your engine performance will be much poorer and most likely your mpg will also drop. The savings then are moot point because the poor engine performance causes more gas to be used than normal ... basically it's a "catch the pennies as the dollars fly by" issue. Your engine was designed to run on the higher octane fuel ... it needs that grade to run properly and to promote longer engine life.
