I'm reaching back 60 yrs to my early childhood and my first goldfish bowl. A brochure that I obtained from the local hobby shop clearly stated that the Fighting Betta would kill everyone in a community tank. That's how they earned the adjective "Fighting".
They are natural killers. End of story.
you can put a female betta in a community tank, but not a male one. Just be careful that nothing, such as a fin nipper, is going to hurt the betta.
