A rainbow is never just where you are. That's why we can never reach the pot of gold at its end. If you see a rainbow it's because there is rain in the sky and the sun's rays are shining through the drops, so causing the colours of the "spectrum". You might notice that when you look at a rainbow the Sun is always behind you. You can make a rainbow on a sunny day if you stand with your back to the Sun and squirt a "mist" of tiny water drops from a hosepipe.
We on the ground only see a "bow" but if you are flying and see a rainbow it's possible to see a full circle of colours.

The pot of gold at the end of a rainbow is an optical illusion caused by refraction and reflection of light in raindrops. Rainbows do not have a physical end point, so it is impossible to reach or find a pot of gold there.
