Charts will automatically update themselves when data is changed, so there is no need to press any key. F9 is used to update a sheet that has been set to manual calculation. When it is in operation, pressing F9 will update the data and as a result the charts will change automatically.

How do you redraw a chart when you change data?

If the data the chart is using is changed, the chart will automatically update itself. If you want to add extra data to it, you will need to go into the chart settings and change the series. If you are not sure how to do that, sometimes it is easier to just recreate the chart.

If you do a regular copy and paste, then the chart in the Word document will not change if the data in the Excel spreadsheet does. If you want it to always represent the data as it is the Excel document when it is changed, then you need to link the chart in the Word document to the spreadsheet. You can do it using the Paste Link facility.
