A car that is bought in California can be registered in Nevada. The tax to be paid will be based on where the car is registered so it does not matter where the car was bought.
My dad in Alabama is giving me a 2004 Sienna, but I live in California. If the car is given to me do I have to pay tax in California?
No, they let you do whatever you want in California, including driving around in unlicenced and uninsured vehicles. No! and in any other state i think the answer is NO! also drivers licenses are only needed when acting in commerce, at least that's what the supreme court says...seems like we have been tricked in to believing that these things are mandatory when they are not.
They will have to take the uninsured driver to court. Or if you have uninsured driver policy with your insurance, they will pay it.
An Uninsured car has no insurance. Your liability coverage may follow you to it if it is a replacement vehicle but would not cover damage to the uninsured vehicle.
I am sure this varies by state. In California a salvaged car can be exported to Nevada, registered, then re-registered in California. Ask an experienced car salvage guy.
