Diocesan priests do not take a vow of poverty. Thus, he can be named in a will and money will go to him and not the parish. You should double check to make sure.

Other type priests and nuns take a vow of poverty and money would lileky go to parish or convent.

Do priests get paid?

Diocesan priests (priests that are pastors of a specific parish) get paid, although they don't get paid much. Religious priests (priests that are members of a religious order such as the Franciscans) don't get paid because they take vows of poverty.

How would a medieval priest make money for food?

Most priests grew their own food or accepted food from the people around them. The surfs paid a tax with food to the parish.

Why did Saint Francis of Assisi never become a priest?

Francis has left no writings as to why he did not become a priest. Perhaps he felt he had much more freedom to carry out his ministry by "free lancing" and not being tied down to a specific parish or regimen he would have to follow as a priest. Francis was a true 'free spirit." Another thing to remember is that it takes considerable money to obtain the education to become a priest and Francis had "disowned" his own wealthy father and rejected any inheritance he might have received from him to live a life of poverty. He was, however, ordained as a deacon shortly before he died.

What is the pay of RC priest?

Roman Catholic clergy are paid out of funds from their local diocese or archdiocese. Their exact pay varies from region to region but it is based around giving them enough money to pay for necessities and travel etc. Pay for an ordinary parish priest is never particularly high but a bishop or an archbishop might receive more pay. Many priests will share resources with other priests. For example, in a parish with several priests, they might have a shared credit card, shared car, and shared living facilities. This sort of arrangement is common for priests. The emphasis within the Catholic Church is on service to the Church, not on pay, so the average parish priest is not extravagantly paid by local standards. Moreover most of the property they use - like their living accomodation - tends to be the property of the local archdiocese instead of their own property.

How does the tale about an ignorant poor man and a priest go?

There is an ignorant poor man and he has not a lot of money. He tries to go to Church. He has enough money to go ! last rime. He goes and tells the Priest that he has no money now. The priest prays that he will earn money. 3 days later, he finds a load of money at his front door. The moral of this story is to pray for the love of God and you will be loved back.

What is the salary of a Catholic priest?

The average range is $18,000 to $32,000. This all depends on years of service and position. Also, priest usually get free room and board, allowance for cars, a pension, and other little benefits, like paid retreats and money for study. A typical priest can accumulate wealth, however, priest with vows of poverty can not inherit and must give away whatever money they don't need. Another Answer: The above is pretty accurate with certain qualifications. A priest gets "free room and board" as part of his package. Therefore "free room and board" are considered income for tax purposes. The base salary of a Diocesan Priest is within the range of 15K to 30K. 15K would of course be the low end, 30K the high end. If we add to that number the stipends, stole fees, and "free room and board" the numbers would be 20K (low end) to 35K (high end) It is also important to note that not all Dioceses allow a priest to take mass stipends or stole fees. Some Dioceses require that money to go to the parish. Of course every priest is given a 1099 for stipends and stole fees, if they receive them, along with a 1040 form for their base income. Diocesan priests contrary to popular thought do not take a vow of poverty. The above applies to "Diocesan Priests" those who are ordained to a Diocese. It does not apply to Religious Order Priests- those who took vows to a religious order. Religious order priests take a vow of poverty and therefore do not receive a standard paycheck. They might receive a small stipend every month for personal expenses of 100 dollars if that.
