In California it is the responsibility of the seller to provide verification of a current smog inspection before conducting a sales transfer of a vehicle. Without a smog certification from the seller you don't have a right to return the vehicle, but the seller is still responsible to pay for certification and any necessary repairs to pass California emission requirements.
No, it will not pass the smog test with a defective or removed O2 sensor.
the opdomiter does not work, will it pass smog? opdomiter, not sure what that is. Please define.
No. The seller is responsible for getting the car to pass smog. They must provide you with a smog cert. dated no more that 60 prior to the date of sale.
Get it fixed.
Yes that used car should pass smog inspection.
It is the law that says you must smog it, but i sell all my cars "as is" i think everyone does (private party). I have never know of any one complaining, if it won't pass I say so up front. As far as dmv is concerned, they don't give a hoot, they just want it to pass and don't care who foots the bill. DMV website has a ton of info, DMV.CA.ORG look under publications or forms i think. Has all you need!
There could be many reasons why your car will not pass the smog check in your state. The inspection center should have given you a code as to why the car failed.
yes
the shop I go to said that my 2000 Jetta would not pass the smog check when the catalytic converter went bad.
The smog pump is designed to help clean the air the exits the exhaust. It might actually be detrimental to remove it if you have to pass emissions testing.
