Can you run potassium chloride and TPN in a double lumen PICC line?

You can run almost anything on the other lumen when running TPN. You just can't run anything on or draw blood from the lumen that the TPN is connected to. It is just too high of an infection risk! Plus if they get the infection the hospital doesn't get paid for treating the infection.

Can you run rocephin from double lumen picc line with vancomycin running on other lUmen?

No

Can you draw blood from a double-lumen picc line which is used primarily for TPN?

Usually you do not draw blood from a line that is running TPN due to the concentrated electrolytes contained in the solution. If there is no other option the MD must be aware that the sample is taken from a TPN line so he/she can adjust the findings ANOTHER VIEW: PICC lines and other central access devices were not designed to have blood drawn from them for Lab tests. Specimen contamination is a serious problem for Lab whether the specimen is drawn from a single or double lumen PICCs. Even if the other lumen's infusion is shut off, the vacuum created in the lumen where blood is being drawn can cause contamination of the specimen. Often, even if the lumen is flushed properly and there is no contamination, the specimen may be hemolysed or clotted, making it useless for lab testing. In general, Lab will not report out results that they suspect are erroneous. This is because a Lab tech or physician cannot simply "adjust" findings due to an improperly collected specimen. This would be guesswork and is unacceptable in a health care setting where treatment often depends on reliable Lab results. Bottom line: check your facilities' policies and procedures regarding the use of PICCs and other central access devices for blood collection.

How long kitten should be on atibiotic for sneezing and discharge?

What happens if you take antibiotic course faster than recommended?

Basically, you waste the antibiotic and run the risk of getting what is known as a super infection. The proper dosage and timing of an antibiotic is clinically established. By taking the antibiotic faster than recommended, it does not increase the effectiveness of the drug, and you will run out of the prescription before the regimen was to be completed. Consequently, all the microbes will not be killed, and the most resistant ones can remain able to rebound into an infection that the antibiotic is unable to fight. The best advice is to follow the directions on the prescription. Take the correct dosage at the correct times until the prescription is gone, regardless of how you feel. The last day or two of the antibiotic is the most critical. That is when the most resistant bugs are being killed.

How is antibiotic overuse a bad thing?

If you overuse it then when you really need it, it won't work. The reason is that your doctor should do a culture, like a throat swab, and run a sensitivity test to see if an antibiotic is needed and which one will affect the microbe. You want to hit the microbe with accuracy and not with a "shot-gun". When treating the microbe with the right drug, the persons' normal flora will not become resistant to that antibiotic. I get really upset if a culture and sensitivity isn't done because the antibiotic may be needed to knock a microbe out and now it will not work at all or have to be given higher doses.

How do you fight harmful microbes if antibiotics run out?

if you run out of antibiotics, and you still have harmful microbes in your body... GO BACK TO THE DOCTOR, the main reason antibiotic resistant bacteria develop is because patients don't stick to a good antibiotic dosage and frequency regiment, it is like giving your bronchitis a vaccination to the cure your doctor has administered to you, hope that answers your question

Is that just a myth that one should complete the course of antibiotics?

No. Obviously not. If a patient does not complete a course of antibiotics, they run the risk of selecting for antibiotic resistant bacteria in their body. If these bacteria become infectious, stronger (more expensive) antibiotics will be required to treat the secondary infection.

Why penicillin is not effective against common cold?

The common cold is a virus. Viruses have to run its complete life cycle. Penicillin is an antibiotic, used to rid the body's system of bacteria.

What is the lumen output of a GU10?

It depends on the type of GU10 lamp - an GU10 LED will have a lower power usage (cheaper to run) but lower Lumen output. For example a 3W GU10 LED lamp in warm white has an output of about 150 Lumens. For a halogen GU10, a 35W bulb will have an output of about 600 Lumens. For more powerful lamps, expect a higher Lumen output. Finally you have an option such as a low energy GU10 such as the Megaman, which for a 7W power value gives an output of 620 Lumens, which exceeds that of the halogen bulb and also has a longer life.
