Yes you can, it works on both an Acer Computer and an Acer Laptop. I have The Sims 2, The Sims 2 University and The Sims 2 Nightlife on my computer and it works fine. My friend has a laptop and the same games including a couple of Stuff packs work on it also.

Check the computer requirements on the back of the Sims2 case. For Mansion and Garden Stuff, the latest expansion for the Sims2 game, it says 1GB (One Gigabyte) of RAM.
RAM stands for Random Access Memory. If you don't have enough RAM, then it's too much for your computer to process at the same time and the program will run slowly or not at all.
Or possibly you need more memory. (like, hard drive space) You can buy external hard drives for your computer, so that should solve a memory problem. I don't know how to expand RAM but it probably can be done.
If it won't open and you met the system requirements and such, it might just be that it's not compatible with the operating system software that is on your laptop; But I have Sims2 on my laptop and it works perfectly fine.

The Acer Aspire One does not meet the system requirements for The Sims 3. In particular, the processor is too slow (a 1.6 GHz Atom processor vs. a 2.0 GHz Pentium 4). Most models also do not include enough storage space to store The Sims 3 effectively (at least 6 GB of free memory are needed) I suggest that you get an Apple Mac Pro, it will DEFINATLY Run Sims 3, I have one. It is on the pricey side . but it is well worth it!
