Yes, you certainly can share your good news , but don't expect gifts . If people are moved to send them, an extra-gracious, hand-written Thank You from the graduate, please. Not from MOM.
It is not rude to send someone an invitations & announcements package and not invite them to the party itself. Especially if they are across the country.
