Yes, you have are supposed to "Stand Your Ground". If someone is on your property even your backyard especially at night and you he is an intruder you can shoot him. Its different than states like NJ and NY. In NJ you are supposed to call the police and evacuate your house if you can. You can only use your gun if the intruder has a knife or gun and is like threatening to you. In PA there is no charge if you are in the right and the intruder broke in and you shot or killed him. In NJ you could be charged with Homicide if you killed him even if you were in the right. This is just because the laws are tweaked a bit differently. The PA law applies to another 40 states while the NJ law applies to 9 or 10 more states. As you can see the majority of the states are civil minded
