Rifled slugs were designed for smooth bore barrels because they lack rifling. Sabot slugs are made for rifled bores but they can fire through smooth bores with loss of accuracy. I am not sure about rifled slugs in a rifled barrel because I think the bullets rifling can improperly connect with the bores rifling and you risk scratching the barrel.

I've done it and it does't produce very good target hits. They r not very compatible for getting successively good close target patterns.

Can a 20 gauge slug be fired accurately from a non-rifled barrel?

A rifled slug can be fired from a smoothbore barrel with relative accuracy to about 100 yards. By relative accuracy, I mean that shots can be held in a 5 inch circle. That is about the size of the target zone on a deer. For a rifled barrel, rifled slugs should NOT be used, but sabot slugs can be.

Can you shoot slugs with a High Standard Field Classic 12GA with serial number 3115127?

The answer is Yes. You can fire any NON-Rifled slugs out of this gun. I have the same model #3178094 and I have fired many kinds of slugs from this gun. You have whats called a smooth bore shotgun which means you can fire any slugs or projectiles made for smooth bore. when you buy your ammo ask the gun shop to show you what I'm talking about. When you look inside the barrel you see it's smooth. The slugs you buy have a plastic case around them so the lead never really comes in contact with the inside of the barrel. Some shotguns have a rifled barrel which has spiral grooves in it the same as a handgun or rifle barrel. A rifled slug rides in the grooves of the barrel just like the bullet of a handgun or rifle. .I hope this helps you understand a little bit more about this gun.

Can you shoot a non-rifled slug through a smooth-bore barrel and maintain decent accuracy and grouping at 25 yards or more?

NOPE. with out rifling, be it barrel or slug itself, there would be no spin on the slug. You would have minimal accuracy.

What slug can you shoot through a rifled barreled shotgun?

Any non rifled slug. However for best perfomance you want a "saboted" slug.

How Long must a shotgun barrel be?

The legal minimum length of a non-rifled gun barrel in the united states is 7 inches.

Does the spiral pattern in a sniper rifle make a shot gun a non rifle?

ALL rifles have barrels that contain "rifling". This is usually in the form of spiral grooves cut into the inside of the barrel- a few have a non-round barrel, with flat surfaces that twist as you go up the barrel. At one time, ALL shotguns had smooth bores- no rifling. However, SOME shotguns now have barrels with rifling, used to shoot slugs. They are still not rifles, as they are meant to shoot shotgun shells.

What part of a rifle is the legal length measured?

I am fairly certain it is the rifled part of the barrel, not including the chamber, from the headspace ledge to the muzzle, and including any permanant non-rifled attachments to the muzzle. Therefore, a rifle with a fifteen inch barrel can be legal if it has a muzzle brake or compensator which brings its length to over sixteen inches.

Can you shoot slugs through an accu-choke?

Without knowing the particular make up of the barrel or slug, I would say that the answer is NO as slugs are generally designed for a non choked barrel. If you really want to know take your shotgun to a firearms specialist. This guy is essentially right on the money. Take it to a dealer or gunsmith. You should never take the chance and fire a slug though a choke--it just isn't designed for it. Use smooth bore if you want to be safe.

What is a sabot slug?

A single, non-rifled projectile shot out of a rifled bore shotgun (specifically a slug gun).

How far does a non rifled cannon fire vs a rifled?

Even though it's possible that a rifled gun will shoot further than a smooth bored gun; that would certainly be the exception rather than the rule. Generally speaking, the rifling is for accuracy...not range. And, generally speaking, a smooth bore would shoot further than a rifled gun; because it has less friction than a rifled gun does. That's why the M1 Abram MBT has a 120mm smoothbore; to obtain more velocity. To compensate for it's loss of accuracy, due to a lack of rifling; the M1 tank fires projectiles which un-folds fins upon exiting the muzzle.

What choke is advised to use with a smooth bore barrel and rifled slugs?

Its called a slug choke you can buy them a Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop, probably online in a bunch of places, and walmart might sell them but try elsewhere first. **************** A rifled slug may safely be fired through any choke except 3- an "extra full" choke, which is non-standard, used in turkey shoots- or a variable choke- the fingers of the choke may be broken by a slug- and last- ANY shotgun that the maker says not to use slugs. Some are "overbored"- barrel inside diameter larger than usual- and slug can get a bit sideways. MODIFIED usually give best accuracy, but will vary from gun to gun.

What do barrel racers have that non barrel racers do not?
