I found this answered in another persons question posted, they said not to as it could expand the barrel and have to much pressure. not knowing this I shot 3 slugs each through 2 differant 12 gage guns both full choked at a sight in range and one more to take down the deer just this last fall. & hope I did not damage my guns. they sighted off by 1 foot @ 50 yards so I did have to compensate aim. I am looking for a riefled gun now...
Not sure what you are asking.but I will give it a shot. Are you asking if you can shoot a rifled slug through a smooth barrel. if so yes that is what they are made for.
Shooting rifled slugs is the ONLY way to shoot thru a smoothbore for deer. If you shoot sabot slugs thru a smoothbore, it will not spin and therefore not be accurate. For accuracy, the slug must spin out of the barrel. Either shoot a rifled slug thru a smooth barrel, or shoot a saboted slug thru a rifled barrel.
You can, but, it will not be a good thing.
In short, it is a barrel designed to fire slugs. Some are smooth bore which are intended to shoot rifled slugs or buckshot, while others are rifled and intended for shooting sabot slugs only. This is a very good and trusted answer. lcj
Yes, but, the results will be dismal at best.
Any non rifled slug. However for best perfomance you want a "saboted" slug.
Yes. That's the only type of shotgun you should fire a sabot slug from. Rifled shotguns are intended for rifled slugs only. Actually, the opposite is true. Rifled slugs are preferred for smooth barreled shotguns. The 'rifling' on the slug is actually just fins that permit the slug to squeeze through the choke on the shotgun barrel. Sabot slugs are intended for rifled barrels, as they will give better accuracy. Some sabots may be used in smooth barrels, but you are paying more for sabots and not getting the accuracy you would get by using a sabot in a rifled barrel.
Slugs. You CAN shoot lead bird shot in a rifled barrel but it will not give you good or consistant patterns.
no
yes you can shoot rifled slugs through smooth bore barell, or use rifled choke for sabots. the sa08 takes the same choke as mossberg...win, etc.
Yes, If shotgun is in decent condition! With smooth bores, I like rifled winchester slugs. 11" drop at 100 yards. They are very accurate up to 100 yds. I get 4" groups and have killed deer very efficently at 80 up to yds..
a slug is normally use in a shot gun and they are not rifled a gun with a rifled barrel should shoot a Shell that is the same caliber as the gun.
Yes.
