If you do not start that routine when they are puppies, it is a task you will never achieve, once full grown. So, yes. There are some key tips, I can give you to help with the task. Believe me, you will need all the help you can get. Take it slow. Pit bulls are more afraid of things, than most believe. Ignore the reputation, you have probably heard. Start, by using his curiosity, and desire to be with you in your favor, and start by keeping him/her in the bathroom, with you, when you shower. Then, at the end, open the curtain, and invite him in. He wont come in, right off, but do not push him. Act disinterested, and uncaring, either way. Remember that they are not afraid of the water, itself, but the noise, flowing water makes. Now, I can also say that they are not very good in a water, setting. Do not ever in play, toss one in the water, and turn your back. I have never been able to get one to even attempt, to swim. And buoyancy, eludes their abilities. So, they may actually have a fear of the water. I don't know, but I do know that with your patience, and support, the two of you can overcome just about any hurdle, life can throw at you, so, take it slow, and easy, and let him take his own steps, with your seemingly uninterested nudging. In otherwords, offer him the option, but do not insist. You will see his ability, and desire, to please, and be with you. And, letting him set the pace, will boost his confidence, and esteem, which, is very important to a pit. And whatever you do, do not embarass, or humiliate him. He will be hard to win over, after a continued routine of this treatment. Pride is very important to these dogs. So, after the first times he does enter, and after, when drying him off, give him praise, and build him up, by telling him how good he looks, and how proud of him you are, for the completion of the task. Also, keep in mind that pits are short haired dogs, and get cold, or hot, really easy. So, water temp., as well as outside temp., are going to be a factor in his analysis, of the process..........Chuck.
yes just dont get water in its nose or ears. and try not to get soap in its eyes, it doesnt do any thing to them, it just hurts like when we get soap in our eyes:)
