You don't need a black box to split composite video. What you'd use is a video distribution amplifier with at least two outputs on it. (You can find used ones on Ebay and on the 'net).

The reason for the distribution amp is that when you split a composite video signal, it halves the output and consequently, the picture usually looks way too dark.

You're also going to have problems with copy guarding. That's the anti-theft scheme usually contained in the original DVD you're trying to copy. Of course, the exception would be a DVD that was mastered on a home computer or some similar piece of equipment. If you try to copy commercially produced DVD's, all you're going to end up doing is making a lot of coasters.

What records video as digital signals?

A DVD recorder records video as a digital signal. A CD-ROM in a computer records video as a digital signal.

What would cause poor image quality on a Sony digital TV and video recorder?

I've found that by trying the different video signal settings ie (composite, SVHS, RGB etc.) I've found a very wide range of quality results. Have you tried the different settings available to you on both the TV and recorder?

What is an S video cord?

An S video cord is used in video systems that separate the luminance and chrominance portions of a video signal and carry them through separate cables within the S video cable. Composite video has both of these items contained within the same signal. By keeping the circuits separated, the color and picture quality is improved as compared to a composite video signal.

Can a DVD player record a video?

No, a DVD player cannot record a video: however a DVD recorder can.

Can you play 720p on composite cable?

Composite video signals are used with standard definition video. There is no composite encoding system for HD signals. As 720p, 1080i and 1080p are all HD signals, they cannot be carried on a composite signal.

What is S video output?

It's another way to carry a video source. S-Video gives you a cleaner video signal than composite, but a lesser signal than component or hdmi. S-video does not carry an audio signal. The end of an S cable is round, and has many pins inside the end piece. S-video output on a device would allow you to run an S signal from the DVD player (or whatever the device is) to a tv.

What kind of cable is needed to connect VGA to RCA?

VGA, a computer video output, cannot be converted to a composite (1 video wire) or component video (3 video wires) signal with just a cable. VGA can be much higher resolution than composite video. You will need a scan converter box to create the NTSC video signal.

What is s-video?

S-video is a signal format. It is a development used on domestic video systems to improve the quality of images over the composite video format that was the standard interface between equipment. Composite video uses a single wire to carry both the brightness information (Also known as "luma" or "y") and the colour information (known as "chroma" or "c"). Because of the way the colour is encoded in the signal, there is a limit to the resolution of the signal and some vertical lines can appear smeared or softened because of it. S-video uses two wires to carry the signal. One is just for the luma signal or "y". the other is for the chroma content, or "c". S-video is also known as a yc signal because of the two components. Although the colour information is identical to that of the composite signal, the luma signal is a higher bandwidth that composite. The result is that edges look sharper and the image is a slightly higher resolution.

How would one use a S video to composite cable?

There are many ways in which one can use a S video to composite cable. The simplest way is by using an adapter if your signal source allows video input.

How do you convert s video to composite video?

You need a RF modulator to convert the signal to a (RF) TV channel. The audio and video quality will be lower doing this.

Is there a converter from composite or s-video to component video?

There are many converters on the market, from a few dollars to many thousands of dollars for a studio quality decoder. There is a limited benefit in using a dedicated composite to component decoder: Once a signal has been encoded into a composite or an S-video signal, some of the picture detail is lost forever. Decoding the signal into component does not restore the quality. Bear in mind that every television that has a composite or S-video input has a decoder to obtain a component signal. Using an external decoder simply moves the process to another point in the signal path. Having said that, a good quality decoder may give better results than a television's internal decoder.
