If the engine will run you could drive it, but I would advise against it. The diesel may damage the O2 sensors and catalytic converter. Drain the tank and then fill it up with fresh gasoline. No real damage will be done with the small amount of diesel left.

Would a diesel car still drive on petrol?

Absolutely not! Petrol (gasoline) can cause catastrophic damage to a diesel automobile engine, even in very small quantities.

Why do cars need petrol or diesel?

Petrol and diesel engines are internal combustion engines. The internal combustion that turns the engine and powers the wheels is created by the combustion of fuel. No fuel, no combustion, and nothing to drive the wheels.

What if you only put 8 liters of diesel in a full tank of petrol?

your best bet is to drain it, it would be easier if it was the other way round, petrol into diesel but it not. either drive it to your nearest garage or pump it out by hand.

What are diesel and gas engines?

Both are internal combustion engines that can be used to drive vehicles, generators, etc. One is fuelled by diesel, and the other one uses gas (USA), petrol (UK). Both diesel and petrol is derived from refined crude oil.

What is the weight of Audi a6?

Depends on avant or saloon, petrol or diesel auto or manual, front drive or quattro.

Should I buy a petrol or diesel car?

It Depends, if you are a long distance driver then go for a diesel as it is very economical. But if you are looking for something fast and don't drive long distances then go for a petrol car. I prefer diesel cars as they are cheaper to run, powerful, economical and cheaper to tax.

What if you accidentally put diesel fuel in your car instead of petrol?

Depending on the mix (how much petrol vs how much diesel), the car will either not go at all, or may go but feel jerky. It is obviously not recommended to put ANY diesel in a petrol engine, simply because of the way a petrol engine works vs how a diesel engine works. In a petrol engine, the fuel is made to combust only with a spark, and therefore requires a much higher pressure for combustion to take place. The higher the octane of the fuel, the more pressure is needed for the fuel to combust. A diesel engine works in the opposite way, where it needs less pressure and no spark to combust. If you have accidentally put diesel in a petrol engine, don't drive the car. Drain the fuel. You may have to replace to fuel filter and the spark pugs Comment: To clarify the above logic. CAUTION!! Diesel engines have compression ratios of 15:1 or more so that PRESSURE (not spark) ignites the fuel. Petrol engines use SPARK to ignite the fuel. The high octane rating of petrol is so that it does not PRE-IGNITE (pink) under pressure. Raise the compression ratio and you need a higher octane rating, which is why some petrolheads use Avgas (130 octane) on their high performance engines. Diesel engines need HIGH pressure to operate, petrol engines can use LOWER pressure to work, but need higher octane rated fuel if the pressure rises.

What will you do if the world runs out of petrol diesel and others?

Walk, bicycle, drive electric cars. There is always a way to get from point A to point B.

Will petrol oil harm a diesel engine?

Yes as it does not have the lubrication of diesel. Also may damage fuel filter. Don't drive. Get quotes to clean out tank, filters etc but if you want to risk it and tank is not full you can fill with diesel and then run engine to use petrol/diesel mix. Get tank emptied by mechanic for safety. Change filters soon afterwards .

What can i do to get rid of diesel in a petrol car?

Drain the tank, then fill up with the right fuel. Should be enough if you didn't drive it before discovering your mistake.

How does petrol disappear from the petrol tank as you drive?

The petrol is pumped from the tank to feed the engine.

Does diesel work in petrol engine?

The self ignition temp of petrol is much higher than diesel hence only compression in diesel engine cannot initiate the combustion .thus petrol cannot be used in diesel engine. There was an episode of "Amazing Race" a couple of years ago where the contestants jumped into the cars they were given to drive to the next destination. They were all diesel. They had to stop on the way there and fill up the tanks. It was night and about half the contestants did not notice that the cars were diesel and they pumped gasoline into the tanks. The cars did in fact get down the road a ways until they finally stopped. The most enterprising of the contestants was an older gentleman who crawled underneath his car, disconnected the fuel line, drained the tank, reconnected it, and refilled it with diesel. No a diesel will not run on gasoline.
