Yes you can. Even though in the Western world we get vaccinated against it, the immunity provided by the vaccine may lapse in people in their teen years. A booster shot is all that is needed to strengthen the protection.

You could have acid reflux, asthma, or bronchitis...or many other underlying causes. This is why cough supressants say not to take for more than X # of days. You should see a doctor if cough persists.
