Pretty much as long as they want. Teachers get teaching credentials and many have expiration dates. As long as a person renews they can teach . Good evaluations, attending training, taking college classes are all requirements to keep a teaching job. Most teachers retire in mid 60's, but I have known teachers to teach until 72 or more. I retired at 60, but still teach as a substitute and will be teaching summer school for 5 weeks.

It is not difficult at all. Most states require at least 60 college credits to teach as a substitute. Contact the Board of Education in the area you would like to teach and they will be able to appropriately direct you. Once you start, if you are dependable and do a good job, they will keep calling you back.
