In 1995, the motor was run using an OBDI series computer, in 1997 it was running OBDII. The sensors may be different though they look the same. Swap all the sensors over to the '95 Motor from the '97. Throttle Body: Electrical connections and throttle shaft changed. Intake Manifold - EGR in '95, Non-EGR in '97; there is an additional water temperature sensor on the '95 motor that will not be found in the '97 wiring harness. Exhaust Manifolds: EGR in '95, Non-EGR in '97. Make sure the oil pan is the same. The '95 Dakota had a different suspension and frame than the '97 Dakotas. That's it, it shouldn't be too hard of a swap. This information applies to all Dodge Magnum 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9 motors from 1992-2003. The motors from 1992-1995 were OBDI motors, from 1996 and on, the motors were OBDII.
