Yes, Vicodin is used to treat moderate to above moderate pain and Ativan is used to treat anxiety. If your doctor prescribed both of them to you then he/she believes you need both. If you take both at the same time or even in the same 1-2 hours of each other I wouldn't recommend you operate any heavy machinery like a car unless you have taken them both before and know how you feel.
