Yes, there is no problem in taking those 2 drugs together. However, you might see combined side effects such as dizziness and drowsiness. ------I have been on methadone and effexor for 5 years together. It does cause increased drowsiness, so be very careful! I had a car accident because of falling asleep while driving. I also noticed massive sweating, because it is a side effect of both medications. Not fun! But after I adjusted, it has been no worse than the usual sweating you would experience on methadone anyway. It took a long time for the sleepiness to correct itself. I find I am somewhat sedated on methadone no matter what dose it is, and by that I mean that it is easier for me to fall asleep while watching TV or at the movies when its all dark! Be careful when you take these together, you might have to adjust your doses. Talk to your doctor!
The research has shown that there is a moderate drug interaction between methadone and cymbalta. These two medication act on similar receptor sites. The methadone has a tendency to increase the duloxetine (i.e. cymbalta) plasma levels. Above all else, the concomitant use of methadone and cymbalta will vary greatly from person to person. Individual differences in the simultaneous use of these two medications far outweigh the similarities. However, if you have been prescribed both methadone and cymbalta by different doctors, you must make sure that each physician is aware of what the other has prescribed. The most common negative side effect of taking these two medications together is the possibility of serotonin syndrome. An overproduction of the neurotransmitter serotonin may cause agitation, insomnia, headache, irritability, anxiety, and even mania in some patients. Hope this has helped.

I have been on Methadone for almost two years. I just started seeing a new psychiatrist, and he seems like he knows what he is doing. He recommended Cymbalta to me, as an aid with dealing with my depression that has become overwhelming in recent months, specifically because it can be used effectively and safely with Methadone.
I do not know for sure, and I am just going on his word, so you might want to research a little more, but I do not think there are many tests that have been done on this combination of drugs. I say go for it. I think that I am going to as well. Keep me posted on your results if you do decide to combine them. Likewise, I will post my findings as well. Good luck!
