Can Cymbalta oxycodone and lorazepam be taking together?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I can only speak from my experience, but yes. I'm on 60mg cymbalta taken once per day and 80mg oxycontin (extended release oxycodone) taken 3 times per day (total 240mg). I also use 100mg lyrica taken twice per day and 20-40mg immediate release oxycodone for breakthrough pain. This is due to spinal nerve damage and neuropathic pain.

That being said, I have taken lorazepam in addition to the above, but only every once in a while, not continuously. And I took the base dose, unfortunately i cannot remember what the 'base' dose of lorazepam is.

What muscle relaxants can you take with Cymbalta?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can, but there is a potential for various adverse effects. This can range from not feeling the effects of the muscle relaxant due to prozac's (fluoxetine) negative effect on some of the enzymes that the body typically uses to breakdown chemicals that enter the body, to making the reason for taking prozac (anxiety, depression) worse upon introducing the muscle relaxant. I am not a Dr by any means, but I am prescribed prozac and I took the initiative to learn as much as possible about it. I also enjoy benzos (muscle relaxants) and other pill formed narcotics. There are 2 main different types of muscle relaxants, but in reality nearly all types out there can have different reactions. My suggestion, ALWAYS due your research, even if that means looking at a pharmacology reference book at the library to calling any pharmacy and ask about adverse effects between the 2 drugs. Once this is done, proceed with caution. OD death can happen with benzos, usually due to respiratory failure. Because the prozac can create the effects I talked about earlier, you potentially can take too much. So don't go crazy on the benzos, no matter how much fun it can be. And again, as I said before, DO YOUR RESEARCH. Diving into cloudy water where you can not see the bottom can kill you, but once you know the correct depth, your chances of survival increase dramatically. Hope this helps.

Lastly, since most people I know that like popping benzos also enjoy other pills, you should know the huge risk of taking prozac & opioids (percocet, morphine, roxie, oxy, fentanyl, even methadone, suboxone, and subutex). This can lead to a condition that will ruin your life called Serotonin Syndrome. I don't have time to go into this syndrome, but it sucks and has even been known to cause fatalities.

Answer

I do not know a lot about classical music and where Sondheim may have derived his inspiration but I think the violins in "Somewhere" from West Side Story provide the "haunting hook" in the Cymbalta Theme Song.

I think this is for what you're searching.

Can you take Cymbalta with fluoxetine?

There is no known interaction between cipro and cymbalta. So you *should* be fine. Note that cymbalta is pretty new, and it's had a checkered past with the FDA, so you really should be having this chat with your doctor who, in turn, should be watching you pretty closely, as cymbalta has quite a few physiological side-effects. This is one I'd very much avoid self-medicating with.

Honestly, I've been on Cymbalta now for just over a year, and also have a history of urinary problems which often are improved with Cipro. That said, I was told by my doc never to take cymbalta with cipro as the cipro can increase the effect of the cymbalta markedly (by about 2-3 times). With all of that out of the way - this week I was prescribed cipro for another urinary infection and discussed the potential for interaction with my pharmacist. He told me to take the cymbalta every 2-3 days (I feel like hell without it after ONE day, honestly), and continue as normally for the full seven day course of the cipro. I can live with that - I just wish someone would come up with a better option.

This is a moderate interaction. SSRI antidepressants might cause your blood pressure to drop too low when taken with certain blood pressure medications. Your doctor needs to monitor you until you become used to are these medicines. Be careful sitting or standing. Contact your doctor immediately if you become dizzy, confused, faint when standing up, or have rapid heartbeat.

Can you take hydrocodone and Cymbalta together and is Cymbalta addictive?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes and yes. You can take hydrocodone (vicodin) and cymbalta together. Also, each of them, taken alone or combined on a regular basis, cause physical addiction, so stopping either or both will result in withdrawal symptoms.

WARNING/PLEASE NOTE: Just because it's okay to take vicodin and cymbalta together doesn't mean it is okay to take any and all opiates with cymbalta. For example, you can NOT take tramadol (ultram) and cymbalta together.

tramadol is not an opiate its opiod like- very different. and they can be taken together at low dosage ranges under MD supervision. Its not recommended however. the top paragraph is correct

cymbalta is not a controlled substance (other than being prescription) and does not carry the potential for abuse in the vast majority of people
