I am 9 weeks pregnant with my first child and I had experienced a horrible migrain, it was to the point that I had gotten admitted into the hospital. The doctor told me that Vicodine was completely safe for pregnant women. It has the same ingredients as Tylenol infact it has Tylenol in it with a narcotic. The only problem would be to get addicted to the drug, otherwise it was safe to take vicodine. They gave me 2 500 mg pills while i was there and then a refill for when I got home. I had a migrain for 3 days because of the pregnancy and Tylenol was not helping but the vicodine calmed it down and by the 4th day it was gone. But you must follow the directions and take 1 to 2 pills every 6 1/2 hours. Most of the time no because it is a narcotic. Talk with your doctor and if you are taking this let him/her know.

:: It is safe to use but not OVER use for anything. I personally don't think that pain meds should be used by a pregnant woman unless its something so painful that you need to be hospitalized for it. My sister had kidney stones and her OB prescribed it to her to take for when her pain got bad until the stones passed.

yes you can. the two ingredients in it are safe completely safe for pregnant women. and at the 500mg level it is not easy to become addicted to. also, take it when Tylenol doesn't work, if you're in a decent amount of pain, that's going to increase your blood pressure, stress and breathing levels, all things that directly affect your baby in a negative way. better to take a safe pill and relieve pain than suffer and put your baby at risk.

From Clinical Pharmacology: Acetaminophen-hydrocodone is classified as FDA pregnancy-risk category C drug. No well-controlled studies in pregnant women have been performed. The pregnancy risk factor increases to FDA category D if acetaminophen-hydrocodone is used for prolonged periods during pregnancy or in high doses close to term. Neonates whose mothers have been taking acetaminophen-hydrocodone chronically may show some respiratory depression and/or withdrawal symptoms at birth or within a few days. No overall increase in fetal mortality, as determined by pregnancy outcomes of mothers that overdosed on various amounts of acetaminophen, was apparent amongst 300 women. In a nutshell: we don't know for certain because there have not been enough studies, but it is unlikely that taking it just once will cause problems.

No, vicodin is not safe for the baby because it contains a narcotic.

Add on: Actually, vicodin is one of the few controlled substances that has (so far) not shown to have any adverse reactions on the unborn baby. However, taking any narcotic or strong medication while pregnant is never recommended, and researchers are not yet certain if it causes any developmental, or other kind of disabilities later in the child's life.

No. According to the FDA, Vicodin is currently a Class C drug, because it has been shown conclusively to cause birth defects in animal studies, but the risks to human fetuses are not yet determined through controlled studies. Typically doctors only prescribe it during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus.

Despite this classification, new research has shown Vicodin to NOT BE SAFE during human pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. According to the CDC, Vicodin increases the risk of severe and life-threatening birth defects, including spina bifida and heart (multiple types of heart defects), brain, eye and abdominal defects.

Studies on animals show adverse effect and toxicity on fetus. No adequate and well controlled studies done on pregnant women. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

Can you take one methadone pill and one vicodin together?

If you want to, yes. But the methadone is a much more potent opiate than Vicodin. If you are taking an adequate dose of methadone, then it is likely that all your opiate receptors in your brain are full. That is, in fact, the point of taking methadone. If they are, then you probably won't "feel" anything from the Vicodin. If you are not taking an adequate dose of methadone, then the Vicodin will help with pain/opiate withdrawls/whatever you are taking it for. It is important to add that if you take the Vicodin with methadone, or any long acting/extended release opiate, that you are still increasing your chances of respiratory depression(the #1 risk of taking too many pain-killers or benzodiazopenes) EVEN IF you do not "feel" the effects from the Vicodin.
