The TracFone / NET10 SIM Card is very unique. It can only be used in a phone sold by TracFone or NET10. Once a phone is activated the SIM Card is tied to the Serial Number of the phone. It can not be removed and placed in a different TracFone or NET10 phone. It has to stay with the phone it was originally activated in. The units/minutes are not stored on the SIM Card they are stored in the phone itself. The TracFone / NET10 SIM Card can not be used in any other GSM technology phone. TracFone and NET10 both have an elaborate database of all the phones they have ever sold in it. You can not activate a phone unless the Serial Number is in their database. If you purchase a phone that has not been properly scanned by a retailer you will not be able to activate it.=You can not change the SIM Card and activate a TracFone on the NET10 website and you can not change the SIM Card and activate a NET10 phone on the TracFone website. Can the sidekick 2008 be prepaid?
Yes. But it's a fairly complicated procedure which is worth trying in my opinion. First, just by a cheap (or free) prepaid T-Mobile phone. Next, take the simcard (smart chip) from that prepaid phone and put it in the phone of your choice, in this case your sidekick. Activate the sim card and your ready to go. But if you have problems using the phone with that simcard, just call T-Mobile customer support from another phone,like a home phone, and tell them you want to update your IMEI number (which is found under the battery compartment). And your all set!!!

When you are getting any sort of mobile prepayed phone it is usually the case that it will only take a card for that specific provider. Like Virgin Mobile only takes their own cards and AT&T Prepayed only takes their own cards as well. But there are a few places, like walmart for instance, that do provide universal cards that work with any prepayed mobile provider out there like alltel, at&t, virginmobile, verizon, tmobile, tracfone, etc. These universal cards MIGHT also be at radioshack considering radioshacks have a pretty wide variety of cell phone and pre payed phone cards and what not.
If you buy airtime for a tracfone how long does it take to receive it?
It depends on if you buy a calling card or not. If you do use a calling card and you type the 15 digit number into your phone it send you a text in about 30 seconds. I haven't tried any other ways but I plan on trying to sign up on the Tracfone website so I can buy more minutes from my cell phone.
