Short answer: In general, yes, they can be taken together. But did your doctor prescribe this treatment? If not, you should NOT assume that YOU can take them together. I'm not a doctor or pharmacist but I'm quite sure that the combination wouldn't be appropriate for patients with certain characteristics in their medical histories. Let a doctor decide what prescription meds you can take.

Long answer:

I threw my back out badly on Sunday and my doctor (who I think is an outstanding physician and who I trust greatly) prescribed flexeril (10mg) and Valium (5mg) to manage the pain and stiffness until he could get x-ray results and take the next step to curing this thing. The original order was to take one of each pill twice a day. The medicine helped but I found that the morning dose seemed to wear off well before I took the nighttime dose. My doctor said I could increase the dosage to three times a day and that's helped.

The drugs aren't curing the problem (I wake up stiff and am in pain until I take my first dose) but they are helping to make the pain tolerable. The flexeril knocks me out if I don't take it with coffee, but I guess that's kind of the point. My two other minor side effects are some dry mouth and constipation.

Yes you can but they both cause sedation so taking them together will have additive affects

Yes, this is OK. Remember that Flexeril is muscle relaxant. This means it's going to make you a bit sleepy. Don't drive until you find out how sleepy it makes you.
