Yes. If you are on methadone as a maintenance pain medication, there are other pain meds you can take for breakthrough pain, or to boost the effects of the methadone. One that is commonly prescribed to take with methadone is meperidine (generic Demerol) and phenergan.
The Demerol is a narcotic pain med, and the phenergan potentiates (boosts) the effectivenes of the Demerol, as well as preventing the nausea that some people experience when taking Demerol.
There are other pain meds that can be taken with methadone, but your doctor can best advise you on them, depending on your medical condition.

∙ 14y agomorphine,heroin,codeine are opiates, methadone goes to your spinal cord and brain and blocks the "high" caused by these drugs that is why methadone(fi) is used to ween people away from opiates,while giving them the illusion of the same effects as heroin etc.,

∙ 14y agoMy Hope Hospice nurse has placed me on oxycodone 15 mg every 2 hours, morphine 20 mg every 4 hours, methadone 5 mg 2x daily, dexamethazone 4 mg 1 time daily, fentyle patches 75 mg, along with potassium and lasix 20 mg 2 tablets once daily. This is all for bone pain due to small cell (lung) cancer which has gone into the bones and organs.
