Asked in Citizenship and Marriage
Can you take your wife's last name when you get married?
The laws differ from place to place.
US: Only in 9 states is this legal. California, New York, Hawaii, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Oregon, Iowa, Georgia and North Dakota.
In the other 41 states you must have your name legally changed in court.
Of course, if you are a female, you can take your wife's name in any state where same-sex marriage is legal.
