It is better to stick with one brand, but yes. You can top up with another brand. Just stick with the same weight rating.

Yes you can. Polaris does not manufacture oil. Polaris oil may very well be made by Valvoline or some other oil company. You can use any brand oil you want as long as it meets Polaris specifications.

That depends on condition of the engine, how many miles, stock or performance upgrades, driving conditions etc. Usually you can run a good name brand oil (Castrol, Pennzoil, Valvoline) in the 10-30 to 10-40 range and not hurt the motor.
10-30 winter, 10-40 summer. Any current production oil would be fine, as the engine does not know what brand you have in it. I have seen professional mechanics even mix oil on a newly rebuilt motor with no difficulties. This man never had a come back on a rebuild and was the one who told me the engine does not know the difference. I had and have several 67 cougars and run 10-40 either Valvoline, or Napa brand.
