∙ 8y agoYou can if you want to. It's a myth that touching the elf will cause bad luck. There is NO evidence that the universe cares whether or not one touches an elf on the shelf on Christmas or any other day. And there is also no evidence that an elf on the shelf can cause anything in your life to change. Bottom line: it's a cute toy and a cute custom, but please don't believe in silly superstitions. (Yes, I know, some people have fun with this, and they want to follow the rules of the game by only touching the elf at certain times. I'm just saying this is a custom, and if you don't want to follow it, that's your decision and nothing bad will happen.)
It's generally advised not to touch the elf on the shelf as doing so could make it lose its magic. The magic of the elf is said to fade away if it's touched, so it's best to admire it from afar.
