Can you treat pectus carinatum with bracing in a patient over 18 years of age?

It is possible to treat pectus carinatum using a brace even when your over 18 the only reason people do it early is that your bones are much more bendable and flexbile when you are young, and from what i recall its before your 21 your bones are still flexible so you should be fine.
I agree with the first response that weight training can help a lot , the main thing it can do for you is improve ur posture which inturn will improve your pectus c and make it appear less severe,
those brace type things are basically designed to treat poor posture as maintaining a good posture can bring everything back into place especially flared ribs.
I have braced older children, but don't see adults in my practice. That having been said, we are certain that the chest shape can change even in adulthood. Emphysema is a classic example. There is an adult surgeon at Mayo Clinic Arizona that might be willing to give it a try.

It can become very serious. Over time your chest sinks farther and farther in, and it is always a good idea to start treatments before the bones begin to harden. Bracing is by far the less intrusive way to treat. Surgery and other alternate methods can be very intense and extremely painful. Many people have found bracing to be very successful.
