I definitely DON'T recommend anything but premium fuel. We tried two tanks of mid-grade (89 Octane) in our '99 Q45, and experienced several problems soon after (knock sensor, IACV, EVAP valve, air flow sensor). Coincidence? Maybe...maybe not. The emissions system has to try to compensate for the lower octane, which could "stress" the various components.
The correct type of gas is super unleaded 91 to 93 octane.
The engine will shut off
no problem as long as it is unlead gas,i filled up with my 2002 qx4 and find no big difference as the 91 premium gas.
A 2002 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo takes 91 octane gas or higher. The manufacturer's recommended octane for this car will also be listed on the inside of the gas cap.
Try 87 Octane, if it does not "ping" excessively you should be OK, If it does "ping" try 89 Octane
at least 91 octane
