Yes, the iPad 4th generation with Retina display can run Microsoft Word, but it requires downloading the app from the App Store. While the iPad itself does not come pre-installed with Microsoft Word, users can access it by installing the Microsoft Office app or the standalone Word app. Note that a Microsoft 365 subscription may be needed for full functionality.
For the iPad Touch, you may use Google Docs or subscribe to Microsoft 365

no because mac and Microsoft are not compatible with one another so they will probably have the note pad from apple. That was a terrible answer. Microsoft Word (and furthermore, Microsoft Office) has been retailed for Mac for some time now. In other words, generally speaking, you can purchase Microsoft Office (including Word) for Mac, but it has to be the Mac version of the software. As for the iPad, there is no indication that a Word or Office application is currently available, but the information available suggests that the Pages application (Apple's own word processing software) allows you to save in Word format. In my opinion, however, I would imagine that a MS Word app will eventually be available for the iPad.

All iPads have a version of Apple's iOS installed on it. iPhones and iPod touches also use iOS. The current iOS version is 4.3.5
