That was a terrible answer. Microsoft Word (and furthermore, Microsoft Office) has been retailed for Mac for some time now. In other words, generally speaking, you can purchase Microsoft Office (including Word) for Mac, but it has to be the Mac version of the software.

As for the iPad, there is no indication that a Word or Office application is currently available, but the information available suggests that the Pages application (Apple's own word processing software) allows you to save in Word format. In my opinion, however, I would imagine that a MS Word app will eventually be available for the iPad.
