Actually , the 2004 Expedition owners manual states to use 5 W 20 oil for both
the 5.4 L and 4.6 L engines
Ford uses 5w30 oil, even if the engine has many miles. My husband put heavier oil in ours and it started making noises, because it was not oiling properly. We changed the oil back to 5w30 and those noises went away, and the vechicle ran way better and better fuel mileage.
